Lower Back Pain Causes What are the Exact Reasons?

July 21st, 2010 -- Posted in Back Pain Treatment | No Comments »

Joints and bone conditions, lumbar strain, bony encroachment, lumbar radiculopathy, and nerve irritation are some of the common lower back pain causes. Read on if you want to know more about these lower back pain causes because this article reviews each of these causes.

1. Irritation in the nerves

Being one of lower back pain causes, nerve irritation can cause the sufferer too much pain because any disease along the path of nerves can irritate the lumbar spine. This can occur anywhere from the spinal cord roots to the skin surface. This condition is often associated with different back pain diseases such as lumbar disc disease, bony encroachment, and nerve inflammation.

2. Lumbar Strain

Being one of lower back pain causes, a lumbar strain can be very painful as it is the result of a stretching injury that occurred in the lower back muscle ligaments and tendons, thereby causing different degrees of microscopic degeneration in the affected tissues. This condition is often caused by trauma, overuse, or improper use. Lumbar strain is classified into two types: acute lumbar strain which means that the lower back pain has been felt by the patient for days or weeks while chronic lumbar strain has been felt for more than three months already.

3. Bony Encroachment

Bony encroachment, one of the common lower back pain causes, is the result of any growth or movement of the lumbar spine vertebrae that limits the encroachment or space for the adjacent nerves and spinal cord. Bony encroachment is caused by foraminal narrowing, spondylolisthesis, and spinal stenosis. These conditions often lead to Sciatica pain that runs down the lower portion of the body. Spinal stenosis causes pains in the lower extremity, which can be worse with walking activities and can be better by resting. Treatment of these conditions can vary depending on how severe the condition and can range from resting to surgical decompression done by removing the bone that compresses nervous tissue.

4. Lumbar Radiculopathy

Lumbar radiculopathy is one type of irritation in the nerves, often caused by damaged discs located along the vertebrae. This can be due to wear and tear of the discs’ outer ring, traumatic injury, or combination of the two. As a result, the central portion may be damaged, thereby causing sciatica pain characterized by extreme pain in the legs.

5. Joint and Bone Conditions

Joint and bone conditions are also common lower back pain causes. These conditions include congenital injury, degenerative injury, or injuries caused by the inflammation of joints (arthritis). Congenital injuries or bone conditions include spina bifida and scoliosis. Degenerative joint and bone conditions result from the changes in our body’s cartilage. One of the common degenerative joint and bone conditions is called spondylosis, or the narrowing of the normal space between the vertebrae. Other joint and bone conditions include fractures and arthritis.

The abovementioned lower back pain causes are just a few of the many other causes of lower back pain. Consulting your doctor about any of the known lower back pain symptoms will greatly help you come up with a perfect treatment plan for your condition.

Acute Lower Back Pain Helpful Info and Advice

July 14th, 2010 -- Posted in Back Pain Treatment | No Comments »

Many people complain about acute lower back pain. Around 80% of the US population is said to be affected by it and around 50% suffer from more than one episode of this condition. However, as opposed to what many people believe it is, acute lower back pain is not a disease but rather a symptom that may arise from different medical conditions. As a matter of fact, 7 out of 10 people with this condition had gone through medical evaluations but no specific cause was identified. Nonetheless, incidences or reasons as to why this pain attacks exist. Continue reading this article to get to know them.

Lower Back Pain Causes

Some of the reasons why a person experiences acute lower back pain are injuries or diseases in bones, muscles, and spinal nerves. The pain caused by organ abnormalities within the pelvis, abdomen, or chest may also be experienced in the back. Different intra-abdominal disorders such as kidney diseases, appendicitis, aneurysm, pelvic infections, ovarian disorders, bladder infections, and others can cause lower back pain. Even normal pregnancy can cause acute lower back pain in many ways, such as stretching pelvis ligaments, straining the lower back, and irritating nerves. All these will be considered by your doctor as he evaluates your pain.

Another probable reason for acute lower back pain is nerve impingement, which is said to be caused by the herniation of the disc located between the lower back bones. One example of nerve root impingement is Sciatica, which causes acute lower back pain that affects a specific area in the back with associated numbness in the leg area supplied by the affected nerve. You may also experience acute lower back pain due to spondylosis that occurs when the intervertebral discs lose its volume and moisture with age, thereby decreasing the height of the disc. Even minor physical trauma in similar circumstances may also cause nerve impingement and inflammation, thereby producing classic sciatica without rupturing the disc.

Spinal stenosis may also be characterized by lower back pain symptoms, with pain running down to both lower extremities especially when walking or standing for a long time. Another reason for acute lower back pain is a medical emergency called cauda equine syndrome. This condition occurs when there is a direct compression of the spinal cord. Myofascial pain is also associated with back pain symptoms including tenderness in localized areas, immobility of the muscle groups involved, as well as a type of pain restricted to the peripheral nerves.

Other reasons for acute lower back pain include fibromyalgia, osteomyelitis, nerve inflammation, and tumors. Fibromyalgia causes tenderness and pain throughout the body, fatigue, generalized stiffness, muscle aches, and lower back pain. Osteomyelitis is the infection of the spinal bones, which causes pain and stiffness in the spine. Tumors, especially cancerous tumors are also considered a source of acute lower back pain. Inflammation of spinal nerves occurs when the spinal nerves are infected with the virus called herpes zoster. This virus causes shingles in the spine and can affect the lower back area thereby causing lower back pain and the thoracic area thereby causing upper back pain.

The conditions mentioned above are some of the factors that trigger acute lower back pain. It is never right to make assumptions, so if you feel any of the symptoms mentioned above, consult with your doctor immediately.

Medical Marijuana Clones

July 10th, 2010 -- Posted in Back Pain Treatment | No Comments »

Clones have several advantages for the home grower. They’ll speed up your growing cycles. They’ll predetermine sex of the plant, they’ll preserve the exact strain and they will save you money. To appreciate the benefits of medical marijuana clones more, let us discuss them individually.

SPEEDING UP GROWING CYCLES

Marijuana often takes 4 or 5 months to mature when left to grow naturally. Add another couple of weeks for harvesting, drying and curing and you could find yourself limited to 2 crops per year. With horticultural improvement of the strains, and with the use of hydroponics, growing cycles can be reduced to three months or less producing up to 4 crops per year (or six or more if you alternate two grow areas.) Not only does this produce a larger amount of medical marijuana (and good rule of thumb is between two and four ounces per plant), but your expenses for electricity and nutrients are less per crop as well.

PREDETERMINING THE SEX OF THE MARIJUANA PLANT

Starting with clones is the only guaranteed way of producing female plants. By nature, starting from seeds, you will get a 50/50 mix of male and female plants. If you want, you can use marijuana strains that are considered as feminized seeds - these claim to produce 70% females. The presence of many male marijuana plans is not helpful for two primary reasons: (1) male plants have significantly less medical effect and (2) they’ll weaken the medical potency of female plants through pollination - female plants are more concentrated on producing seeds rather than flowers. Thus, it is always a great option to start with medical marijuana clones. This is the only way to ensure that 100% of your plants will turn out to be female.

PRESERVING THE EXACT STRAIN

Clones, which are basically a small cutting of a marijuana plant that’s placed in a block of rock wool, are as the name clone implies, an exact replica of the original plant. Theoretically speaking, once you see a strain of marijuana you like, and locate a clone for this strain, you can grow the same plant time and again. The most notable benefit here is that there are many times when your pharmacy is out of stock of your favorite strain. So you don’t have to rely on the stocks of your pharmacy, rather, you are guaranteed with a steady supply all-year round.

SAVING MONEY BY GROWING YOUR OWN MEDICAL MARIJUANA

Complete Hydroponic Starter kits available from Stealth Hydroponics are recommended for medical marijuana clones because they are easy to set up and simple to use; cost is around $400. While these kits usually have “space” for 6 plants in their reservoir setup, our suggestion is to grow 3 plants. Even at a low growing rate of 3 crops yearly, with each plant yielding two ounces of medicine, you’ll end up growing around $4000 worth of medicine, at pharmacy prices, per year. Even if you factor in the expenses on electricity and nutrients, your annual harvest will only cost you $600-$750 but you can still enjoy $4000 worth of medicine.

How to Get Rid of - Ticks

July 9th, 2010 -- Posted in Back Pain Treatment | No Comments »

Sorts of Ticks
Ticks are small blood sucking parasites that belong to the arachnid family. They have eight legs and come in two types; one with a hard outer shell and one with a soft outer shell. Soft shelled ticks live in crevices and will only come out to feed, while hard shelled ticks spend long periods of time attached to their host. Ticks feed on blood, which is a great source of proteins and lipids. They feed on mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians and as such are often found on domestic pets and even on humans.

Ticks often live in tall grass where they’re going to sit at the end of a blade of grass waiting for a suitable host to comb by it. Although many of us think that ticks basically jump onto you, this isn’t correct. You have to essentially brush up against the tick for it to attach itself. Ticks use a structure in their mouth called a hypostome which looks like a spear to strongly attach themselves to their host and begin feeding. They often will remain fixed till they become full of blood and then drop off.

Prevent a Tick Bite
The first step in getting rid of ticks is avoiding getting bitten in the first place. You will need to take some precautions if you are going to be in the woods, or passing through tall grass. The first is to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts. You should tuck your pant legs into your socks and your shirt into your pants. Ticks will typically attach low onto your body and crawl upwards so if you can eliminate patches of exposed skin then they are less likely to bite you. When you are in a place that you might be bitten by a tick, wear a tick repellent. These lotions and bug sprays can be purchased in any drug store and there are also repellents which you can treat your clothing and gear with.

A pesticide called permethrin kills ticks and can be discovered either online or at most sporting goods and gardening centres. Take cotton, treat it with the permethrin, and put it in biodegradable card tubes. The tubes are placed outside, where mice collect it for their nests. The permethrin kills any ticks that eat the mice. This system won’t harm the mice, but will kill the ticks. Many of us also opt to keep guinea fowl on their property. Guinea fowl, a kind of bird, can eat very big amounts of ticks and can frequently keep your property clear of them.

The best way to protect your pets from tick bites is to keep them indoors. If this is not desired or practical, then you should consider using tick medication. If you take this route, be very careful about what you choose. There have been multiple animal deaths, as well as serious illness, as a result of over the counter tick medication. Consult your veterinarian about possible medications for your pet. You should brush your dog or cat regularly with a special brush made to remove fleas and tick. It’s also good practice to manually inspect their fur, not only for their own safety, but because they can spread to your family. Washing their bedding, grooming them on a regular basis, and keeping your grass mowed short will help reduce a tick problem. When planning an excursion into areas where you suspect ticks could be hiding, you should designate a “tick buddy” to check your body. Pick someone that you trust, as you will need them to examine your body thoroughly. Ticks can hide anywhere so you need to do a very solid tick check. You should also remember to check your hair, especially if it is long or thick. Remember that ticks like to hide in crevices, so don’t neglect places like the back of your knees, underarms and groin.

Ticket Removal
When a tick attaches itself to it’s host it fundamentally buries its head under the outer surface of your skin, so it’s critical that you do not just try and yank it out. This can leave is mouth parts and head under your skin which can end up in infection. When you have found a tick, you will want to take 2 tweezers and put them round the tick, as close to the outer surface of your skin as practicable. Grab onto the tick and pull straight back. You might have to shake the tweezers a bit to get the tick to come out. Pull slowly but forcibly. Once it is out, you may either burn it, or wrap it up in tissue and flush it down the john. Don’t simply throw it in the garbage, as it will likely climb out and bite you again. You also do not really wish to smash it with your hand or feet as which will release any poisons present in the ticks body. Once the tick is removed, comprehensively wash the situation of the bite with water and soap. You want to also clean it with some alcohol or betadine and consider putting it into a sealed container and storing it in your refrigerator for a month in the event you develop any symptoms. Having the tick that bit you could help doctors diagnose your disorder.
